Revisiting: LOGAN

Logan-Review

It has been 17 years since the first X-Men movie where we were introduced to Logan aka Wolverine. We’ve seen him in an endless torrent of sequels that has delighted fans but led to a weakness: even the best of these films lacks any real tension because audiences know these are after all superhero movies and their ending would rather be ‘happy’ than grim and that these movies aren’t really going to end as long as they are gonna make money. Fortunately, Logan breaks this trend and makes it easier to accept that things can go awry, even for superheroes. It’s a superhero movie that has the balls to let it go and to end it all.

Blair Witch: Bared it all!

blair-witch-review

“I know its been a while since I have written anything. Its partly due to procrastination and partly due to personal commitments. Nonetheless I had been following 2016’s movies, games, books and music. I just never got back to writing as much as I did before. I had a baby boy couple of months back, had a job change where I have to travel close to 4 hours a day, if that doesn’t explain why I wasn’t writing, I don’t know what will. I was haunted by the fact that I couldn’t write, so here’s to 2017 being a fruitful year….hopefully.

Let me start with a movie from my favorite genre: Horror.”

The Blair Witch Project was a movie that I so fondly remember watching in my early teens and getting scared shitless. The grandaddy of the found footage genre, there was something creepy about the movie and its ambiguous ending that gave me sleepless nights. I almost believed their ‘missing students’ marketing campaign that gave all the more chills watching the movie. Only after an year or so, I found out that it was one of the finest marketing campaigns ever and the actors/students were all alive and kicking and probably laughing at us. The joke was on us, but hey, it was well worth it. Continue reading Blair Witch: Bared it all!

Star Wars The Force Awakens: Infinite Goosebumps Assured

Review0

Star Wars The Force Awakens should have come with a disclaimer that it would be an experience truly worth the hype and that it would be one of the best Star Wars movies since A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back and that it would charge up your fanboy cells like never before. There, I have said it all. Continue reading Star Wars The Force Awakens: Infinite Goosebumps Assured

The Intern: A Feel-good Startup Tale

The-Interna

Although I never deliberately sat down to watch Nancy Meyers movies, I always found myself stumbling upon em somehow. I remember being forced to watch Parent Trap with my sister and ended up loving it when I was a kid (I actually believed there were ‘Lindsay Lohan twins’) and despite being a chick flick, I liked What Women Wants as well. The Intern would be the first Nancy Meyers movie that I wanted to give a shot. The previews were intriguing, the plot looked cheesy yet serviceable and of course, the real reason why I watched The Intern was Anne Hathaway and boy I ended up loving it? Her?

Spectre: A Scathing Review

Spectre

I know it’s been weeks since Spectre released yet I can’t shake it off. I was told, warned and maybe held back, from watching Spectre! I was wondering how Sam Mendes could fuck it up. He helmed Skyfall for chrissake, one of the finest James Bond movies in recent times. Spectre was also rumored to be Daniel Craig’s last Bond movie and it deserved to be nothing less than epic. This is going to be a scathing review of Spectre and nothing else. While there’d be many who liked the movie or maybe even some who’d pass this off as a good entertainer, for me it was a very bitter affair.

The Martian: What I Thought!

The-Martian-Review

Minutes into The Martian, Matt Damon’s Mark Watney says “I’m gonna have to science the shit out of this” and I swear I chuckled so loud that the guy next to me was eyeballing me. I never thought I’d be in for a treat going for Ridley Scott’s The Martian. Of course I am a huge Scott fan but his last two movies were a bit too tiresome to sit through. The ageing director’s prowess felt bumbling a bit, but The Martian proves that he’s still got it. This is Sir Ridley Scott’s awesome Comeback! Continue reading The Martian: What I Thought!

Goodnight Mommy: What I Thought!

Goodnight Mommy Review

Ich seh, Ich seh aka Goodnight Mommy‘s previews were all over the internet a few weeks back. Hailed as one of the creepiest trailers this season, it had turned enough heads with its visuals and characters alike. ‘Creepy’ was slapped all over the trailer and the fact that it was more an art-house movie than a commercial movie, intrigued me more. Had Sundance’s The Witch trailer not released earlier this week I would still have stuck to Goodnight Mommy‘s disturbing trailer. Continue reading Goodnight Mommy: What I Thought!
